Iosco RESA's Primary CI Programs are housed at Richardson
Elementary and Middle School for students' ages 9 to 12 years of age
and at Cedar Lake Elementary School for students' 6 to 9 years
of age, with cognitive impairments.
The emphasis of the programs is assisting students to their full
ability in acquiring social and adaptive skills, hygiene skills,
dietary and food prep skills, survival reading and math skills, and
prevocational and work life skills. Visual schedules using the
Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) system allows students to
anticipate and move through daily events.
Housing the program in a K-12 campus affords students
mainstreaming opportunities with their general education peers.
Currently, Primary CI students are able to participate in
Richardson Elementary/Middle School enrichment classes of
Language Arts, Physical Education, Technology, and
Art on a daily basis in a bi-monthly rotating schedule. The
Primary CI students at Cedar lake Elementary School are able to
participate in enrichment classes of Physical Education,
Technology, and Art on a daily basis. Primary CI students are
accompanied by support staff to buoy up their mainstreaming
opportunity successes.
